A
popover pan is a special type of baking pan used to make popovers. Popovers are light, hollow rolls that puff up when baked, and the pan is designed to help them achieve their unique shape and texture.
Full definition
Grease a 6 - cup nonstick metal
popover pan with 1 tablespoon of melted butter and set aside.
Once mixtures are combined,
remove popover pan from oven and spray with non-stick spray, (we don't keep that shit around, we just grease with butter.)
2 cups milk, at room temperature 3 eggs, at room temperature 1 tablespoon butter, melted, plus additional for
greasing popover pan (or use vegetable oil) 1 heaping tablespoon cheese chunks, cut into 1/8» dice (see variations below)
Place popover pan on a rimmed baking sheet (to catch oil drips), and preheat in oven for 15 minutes.
You can use a
conventional popover pan or regular muffin tins (although the muffin tin ones will be smaller and shorter).
And kudos to you for using a muffin pan and not rushing out to buy an expensive, one - purpose -
only popover pan.
I have a
mini popover pan... what would you anticipate the bake time / temp to be for mini popovers?
Grease two
popover pans with melted butter, including area around the cups; reserve remaining butter.
Liberally grease a
nonstick popover pan, or a muffin pan with 1 / 2 - cup indentations, with softened butter.
But there are so many shapes and sizes; you can also use cups (real cups as cupcakes once did - hence their name),
popover pans, mini Bundt pan thingies (check Nordicware), and bakery places like King Arthur, Sweet Celebrations and local restaurant and bakery supply places, and kitchen shops.
In fact, it's
the popover pan that everyone you know has.
Countless recipes say to preheat
the popover pan, but we tested them without doing this step, and our popovers came out tall and beautiful almost every time.
After greasing
the popover pan, divide half of the cheese - herb mixture among the bottoms of the tins.
I'm not usually one for single - purpose pans, but I make an exception for
my popover pan:)
The popovers I make in an old, well seasoned muffin pan are as scrumptious as ever, and taste a little better to me, knowing that I didn't buy
the popover pan I saw at Sur La Table for $ 23.
And yes, I highly recommend
a popover pan.

Remove
the popover pan from the oven and immediately turn them out onto a wire rack.
You can use a muffin tin rather than
a popover pan to make popovers, but your popovers will obviously be shorter and smaller.
Spray
your popover pan with nonstick spray.
You can make popovers in a muffin pan or if you have
a popover pan — they are even better!

Nor will I detail the deprogramming I now am forced to with our senior Labrador Retriever who is convinced that each time I go to the kitchen or remove
a popover pan from the oven, it must be for his benefit.
