First, by carrying a Chase United card (even the fee - free version) you have access to more saver level domestic Economy
award availability (HT: bluecat who correctly points out the availability extends to international
flights on United metal) I haven't found the difference that noticeable
for the most part, but while doing some research
for an upcoming Brandon Asks post I noticed it was quite useful
for positioning flights.
ProTip: If you have the Southwest Companion Pass, use it to
position yourself in Fort Lauderdale
for a JetBlue Ecuador
award flight.
One great way to do this is to use Southwest
for positioning flights to gateway cities in the US if you have international
awards booked on other airlines but can't rope in a leg from your point of origin or if you want to go on a mileage run from a city other than yours.
Great
for Positioning Flights: Sometimes the hardest part of getting to the jumping - off point
for an amazing
award itinerary or a mileage run that will help you rack up the miles
for elite status (or an
award) quickly like the current one from Los Angeles to Singapore (LAX - SIN) is getting to the actual gateway you have to fly out of.
However, it also can be incredibly useful
for positioning yourself to take advantage of available
award flights from distant airports, like booking an
award flight to Australia from Los Angeles on another airline but using Southwest to fly from New York to Los Angeles.
