The

position will benefit financially from the decision, including indirect benefits such as to
family members or businesses with which the person is closely associated.

Some First Nations have attempted to use committees of Elders to adjudicate these issues, but these types of committees are often
in no
position to enforce their decisions, nor do they, like Chiefs and Councils, wish to be interposed into
family conflicts.

position that their marriage is invalid on the basis of the ordinary rules governing
