authors he's spoken to generally want three
things: to do a good job telling their story, to get to the widest audience
possible and to earn a living doing so.

Moving from wannabe
author to the real
thing is totally
possible this coming year.
In 2017, we focused all of our development power and energy on building as many new
things for the indie
author community as
possible.
And people searching for «self publishing» may be interested in some of the
things I write because there is a lot of confusion and misunderstandings about the term; savvy
authors exploring all their publishing options are wise to get as many different perspectives as
possible to make an informed decision.
One of the cool
things about self - publishing right now is that it's very
possible for a «mid-list»
author to make a good income.
The problem is, getting it out there is the worst
possible thing a writer can do for his career if his story isn't ready, and the
author is never the best determiner of whether it's ready or not.
It won't do many
things that another Kindle won't (the interface is virtually identical to the other new models) but if you want to get the words from the
author's pen into your eyes the sleekest way

Which brings us to the most important
thing that you can do as an
author: Figure out as far in advance as

We try to be as transparent as
possible and the inferences here that we are trying to take advantage of
authors in no way reflects a business where, day in and day out, we spend hours with
authors on the phone, often recommending they NOT do
things in order to save them money.
The
thing that so many
authors are struggling to wrap their head around, myself included, is that self - publishing is
possible.
And there is no other way to do that but to try as many
things as
possible: offer a giveaway, host an
author Q&A event, post an excerpt or a short story, post a picture with a quote, organize a poll for your fans to choose your next character's name, etc..
The whole
thing is designed to benefit Amazon while paying
authors as little as
possible.
The most important
thing you can do as a self - published
author, however, is to make sure your ebook is available through as many retail channels as
possible.
There's no reason why a traditionally published
author couldn't do the same
thing, and in this day and age there's every incentive for everyone to try and generate as much attention as
possible.
All of those
things are
possible for indie
authors but there would have to be a lot more hustle and work for an indie
author to get those
things.
