While the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) has always used private investigators to look into anonymous tips about
potentially fraudulent claims, Maryth Yachnin, staff lawyer at the Industrial Accident Victims» Group of Ontario (IAVGO), says the WSIB has recently started spying on injured workers, even when there is no reasonable suspicion that the
person is misrepresenting a claim.
Conduct due diligence by undertaking such steps as performing a Google search on the companies or
persons involved and calling the numbers on the Google search (rather than those on the
potentially fraudulent communication) to verify that you are dealing with a legitimate client rather than a potential fraudster.
