NASA's first workshop on human landing sites,
held in Houston in October 2015, identified
more than 40 «exploration zones» within 50 degrees latitude of the equator, where astronauts could do science and
potentially access raw materials for building and life support, including
water.
For the Sahel and other semi-arid regions, increasing drought is predicted by some models (
Held et al., 2005), while increased
water - use efficiency is projected to cause
more greening (Figure 4.3), though
potentially associated with
more frequent fires, in others (Bachelet et al., 2003; Woodward and Lomas, 2004b; Ni et al., 2006; Schaphoff et al., 2006).
