than preempting the
power of states to deal with
climate change, as some
climate bills in the Senate would do, the national roadmap should show how the federal government can help states be even better go - getters.
A new 1,000 - page Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change report appears to ignore both nuclear

than later, as shown by the recent case of a number of US States taking
power generation companies to court over

In 2030, the pollution from current coal
power plants will be 150 percent higher
than levels that would allow us to prevent catastrophic
climate change.
It is quite plain to me that stopping nuclear
power has a higher priority
than avoiding dangerous
climate change for some people.
But the upside is three-fold: (i) your tax reduction or dividend check will offset much, perhaps more
than 100 %, of those price increases; (ii) you'll be able to minimize your tax bite by cutting down on fuel usage (e.g., shortening those country drives, buying locally - grown produce, purchasing «green
power» from wind and solar cells); and (iii) Americans» combined behavior
changes in response to the carbon tax will go a long way toward protecting the
climate and averting the cataclysmic consequences of unchecked global warming.
Even though the Protocol has prevented a reduction of 220 Gt CO2e since the 1990s, which is more
than the approximate emissions 60,000 coal
powered plants would release in a year, the Montreal Protocol risks negating its contribution to combating
climate change through its unintentional commercialization of the super greenhouse gases, HFCs.
Climate change is a far greater threat to Australia's native vegetation
than is the growth of the wind
power industry.
Employing a political ecology framework, I endeavor to articulate the multiple levels at which this issue unfolds, describing the correlation between the circulation of
climate change discourse and the resurgence of hydroelectric
power at the global level; how this situation has been engaged at the national level within contemporary Costa Rica; and how all of this plays out in contestation concerning dam construction within specific sites in the country, particularly the controversial Río Pacuare in the eastern highlands, where the merits of a major dam proposal have been questioned for more
than two decades.
