powerful assemblage, for a select reading of his new book, The
Nation as Grand Narrative: The Nigerian Press and the Politics of Meaning (NY, USA: University of Rochester Press, 2016).
Through a combination of a variety of information
gathering activities and Committee deliberations, the Committee has concluded that the
nation's need for these scientists remains strong and that the NRSA program, while small compared to the many other sources of doctoral and postdoctoral support, is enormously
powerful in terms of its ability to change research emphases and to attract the highest quality individuals to research careers in the basic biomedical, behavioral and clinical sciences.
The 50 stories
gathered here, along with hundreds of others, were submitted as part of the Rethink Learning Now campaign, a national grassroots effort to change the tenor of our national conversation about schooling by shifting it from a culture of testing, in which we overvalue basic - skills reading and math scores and undervalue just about everything else, to a culture of learning, in which we restore our collective focus on the core conditions of a
powerful learning environment, and work backwards from there to decide how best to evaluate and improve our schools, our educators, and the progress of our
nation's schoolchildren.
Beginning last Thursday, participants
gathered from around the
nation to explore the
powerful relationship between leadership and change.
