Unlike prescribed medication, pro- and
prebiotic supplements do not have a regulatory body that guarantees that a product contain what it purports to contain.

The idea is that the pre - and the pro-biotic work together to provide a combined benefit — while the probiotic settles in and pushes out the «bad» bacteria, the
prebiotic hangs around and acts as its food supply, ensuring that the
supplement sticks around and
does its job.

supplements that shape the gut microbiome can have similar effects in vets suffering from osteoarthritis as they

If you don't get enough of these foods in your diet, I recommend taking
prebiotic supplements.

do feel the need to use a

prebiotic supplement would be better, since it will not contain the lactose, cholesterol, or animal protein found in kefir.

prebiotic fiber, it tastes the best, it's easy to prepare, and it doesn't even feel like
supplementing, (for the picky ones in your family).

does count I feel, and I simply got tired of patients complaining of aggravations who were taking these probiotic /
prebiotic combinations and that's when I started looking a little more closely into the matter and realised that many just couldn't handle FOS or inulin when supplied in a
supplement.

Just like you, your probiotics will need some food to get where they're going and
do their job right so try to get a
supplement that contains
prebiotics as well.
Possibly the best plan of action if one wants to have the best possible gut flora is to increase
prebiotic foods from green bananas, cold potatoes / rice, beans, plantains, etc... and
supplement with 1 - 2TBS of potato starch or another RS source if you are concerned about gut health and it doesn't cause excessive flatulence.
Later work showed RS may
do more to heal the gut than probiotic
supplements because of its twofold effects: It can act as a
prebiotic and raise the number of good bacteria, and it can act as a symbiotic, helping the good bacteria adhere better to the intestinal surface3.
