If the
chemotherapy treatment can not wait until
after the
pregnancy is completed or if termination of the
pregnancy is not an option, a woman can receive
chemotherapy during
pregnancy.
Breastfeeding
after chemotherapy has been completed may be possible, either by relactation or as a result of another
pregnancy, depending upon the drugs that were used.
One example: A consensus panel convened by the National Institutes of Health,
after reviewing medical literature, concluded in November 1997 that «there is clear evidence that needle acupuncture treatment is effective for postoperative and
chemotherapy nausea and vomiting, nausea of
pregnancy, and postoperative dental pain.»
