The similarities Twombly saw and that this exhibition makes explicit include what Lewison lists as: «An interest in allusion and metaphor,
a preoccupation with mortality, a liking for atmospheric effects and an engagement with the tradition of the sublime.»
They highlight a range of his intrinsic qualities, and David Tennant also reflects on Hamlet's humanism and
his preoccupation with mortality.
In fact this year's Turner Prize nominations are being seen as treating political themes more than
the preoccupations with mortality which characterised the YBAs.
