«
Presented locus» is a common ground of perception in the mode of causal efficacy as well as perception in the mode of presentational immediacy.
The «
presented locus» can not constitute an access to other actual entities qua actual, but qua entity only.
It is directly perceived in presentational immediacy, «while the causal past, the causal future, and the other contemporary events, are only indirectly perceived by means of the extensive relations to
the presented locus» (PR 169/257).
5Actually, it is the «
presented locus» that is defined by perception in the mode of presentational immediacy (PR 195f, 492), and Whitehead notes in several places that in keeping with the results of physical science the presented duration and the
presented locus are not to be identified (PR 192 - 96, 492f).
The «
presented locus» is indeed of no real help in leading us from presentational immediacy to causal efficacy, for perception in the mode of causal efficacy itself is a type of objectification, giving us merely an internal view of the subject.
Thus, «
presented locus» is conceived as an atomized, i.e., actualized portion of extensive continuum.
Whitehead thus moves on to supplement it with a discussion of the «
presented locus.»
A footnote to PR 196 indicates that this distinction between the presented duration and
the presented locus is a change from the position in CN (also PNK and R, for that matter).

Dewey calls this value «quality,» but by the term he means neither mathematical nor secondary qualities; he uses the term to refer, first, to the wholeness or deeper reality, in some aspect of the world, often as that wholeness is
presented in a work of art. 24 If this were called the objective
locus of quality, the subjective
locus would be the emotional intuition of the objective quality; this subjective quality gives the experience itself the unity which makes it that particular experience.25 It is this empirical discernment of quality which provides the substance of the derivative and propositional resolution of the conflict between the individual and its environment.

For process metaphysics it would be inconceivable to restrict the
locus of possibility to that which has been actualized or is being actualized in the

locus designated as
present must be given up if we are to penetrate Whitehead's meaning.
