We do not use it to produce power (it is operated by an electric motor) but to measure
the pressure at low rpm (100 - 200).
The phrase «VTEC just kicked in yo» won't apply here — VTEC now solely controls the exhaust valves, reducing turbo lag through increased exhaust
pressure at lower rpms while delivering a high output at higher engine speeds.

The method works by sending exhaust air to the turbine through three smaller exhaust ports
at low rpm, quickly creating boost
pressure of up to 17.4 psi.

That would explain it;
at low engine
RPM the oil
pressure drops enough to turn on the light.
You want the turbo to spool up more quickly
at low rpm for quick response, so the system sends engine exhaust to smaller ports to increase boost
pressure.
PS - Using maths, the max
pressure should be around 70 bars (theoretical,
lower in reality) but I am getting around 20 bars (EDITED, previously 11 by mistake)
at 100
rpm.
At the switch point a solenoid is actuated that allows oil
pressure from a spool valve to operate a locking pin which binds the high
RPM rocker arm to the
low RPM ones.
It reduces back
pressure at low engine
rpm, improving throttle response.
Very

pressure is one of the reasons why the power curve is still ascending
at the 6,500 -

Whereas traditional VTEC operation changes valve opening duration based on higher oil

at one side of the valvetrain's rocker arms, the Civic's i - VTEC system can switch valve timing duration
at low rpm and
low oil
pressure using two hydraulic actuators on both sides of the intake rocker arm.
Special by - pass valves in the exhaust allow a quieter exhaust note
at low speeds;
at 4000
rpm these open to reduce the
pressure in the exhaust system, raising the power output as well as generating a rousing aural accompaniment.
The system can route the exhaust gas heading to the turbo through smaller ports
at a
lower rpm to increase boost
pressure and torque.
The pump is programmed to operate as needed, staying in
low -
pressure mode
at rpms below 3,500, and then bumping up
pressure as demand follows engine speed.

The unique turbocharger is optimally matched to the 2.0 - liter EcoBoost engine and direct injection system, providing precise fuel

Some of the key principles of Eco-Driving are: • Maintain engine speeds between 1200 — 3000 rotations per minute (
RPM); • Change to higher gears between 2000 — 2500
RPM, and drive in top gears
at lower speeds — the so - called «50 in 4th gear» driving style; • Try to anticipate more to avoid strong accelerations, decelerations, overtaking or aggressive driving; • Driving
at speed limits and avoiding high speeds; • Add 10 % to standard tyre
pressure; • Avoid using the air condition, or set
at temperatures above 21Â °C; • Use your bike for short trips — starting your car when it is «cold» uses 300 % more fuel.»
