Nitrogen has a much greater vapour
pressure than methane, and the vapour pressure indicates the ease with which a solid can become gaseous at a given temperature.

«Titan's atmosphere is made up mainly of nitrogen and
methane, with 50 % higher
pressure at its surface
than on Earth,» said Andrew Coates (UCL Mullard Space Science Laboratory), who led the study.
Natural
methane hydrates were first discovered by Russian scientists in the late 1960s in Siberian permafrost — where the ground is so cold that hydrates can form at shallower depths and at lower
pressures than under the sea — and then, in the 1970s, at the bottom of the Black Sea.
With a
pressure 100,000 times less
than the Earth's atmosphere, it's consists of nitrogen with traces of
methane and carbon monoxide, all of which have sublimated from Plutonian ice.
Fracking, including
methane and water concerns — Environmental groups will keep the
pressure on the Obama administration to more aggressively regulate
methane, a greenhouse gas 20 times more potent
than carbon dioxide that is the primary component of natural gas.
Wow, that's an interesting scientific approach to a new phenomenon, assuming that it's unique (there are now two other examples, by the way) assuming that the emissions were of gaseous
methane under
pressure rather
than solid
methane hydrate continuing to dissociate, assuming no
methane flows in from surrounding areas, and so on.
Changes to the temperature and
pressure of permafrost soils (and ocean waters) could lead to
methane, a gas with a much stronger greenhouse warming potential
than carbon dioxide, being released.

We know the administration is feeling
pressure to pile on new
methane regulation from those who're more interested in halting natural gas development altogether
than in making the process better for the environment — which demonstrably is industry's history and continuing goal.
[9] However, it is also thought that fresh water used in the pressurization of oil and gas wells in permafrost and along the continental shelves worldwide combines with natural
methane to form clathrate at depth and
pressure, since
methane hydrates are more stable in fresh water
than in salt water.
[Response: Turns out that hydrate preservation is much more sensitive to changes in temperature
than it is changes in
pressure, so what we might look for is release of
methane during deglaciation.
