optional but in episode two sadly it is manatory that you pilot an E.S to progress in the game in Episode three you piloting an E.S is also mandatory to progress in the game but the difference between in the world andit is far more better than any final fantasy game that Square Enix has ever made but for some reason it still score lower than Some Final Fantasy and other Sqare Enix games on this
