I have never played any
previous Telltale's
games, so The
Walking Dead was a little weird for me in that it didn't feel like a traditional zombie
game, more like an interactive movie.
It's no
walk in the park, but the immersive dungeon crawling and challenging foes that stand between you and your objectives will keep you engaged, and taking down a boss who trounced you on your
previous trek into the heart of a dungeon feels tremendously satisfying when you ultimately persevere, claiming their Blood Crystal for your own, which you can then use to unlock powerful Divinity abilities by offering it to one of the
game's three godly vessels, making your otherworldly avatar even more powerful.
I'm struggling to think of a
previous time when a
game has genuinely affected me on an emotional level, but The
Walking Dead's final scene was so masterfully crafted that I couldn't help but feel a little moved by it.
Whereas
previous games have been hackneyed, with writing that borders on parody, Detroit manages to
walk the fine line needed to be sincere.
After defeating Boom Boom or Pom Pom in the airship, the player has to keep
walking to the Goal Pole instead of ending the level immediately after defeating the boss, as in
previous games, as these bosses actually disappear, leaving their coins behind and a Warp Pipe appears.
