Gay and lesbian couples should be supported in their role as parents, whether their children come from
previous heterosexual relationships, adoption or artificial insemination.
These results are consistent with
previous research which asked over 300 participants (200 newlyweds and over 100 undergraduates) in
heterosexual relationships the traits they wanted in a spouse.2 Participants in that study also reported that they highly valued intelligence, ranking it 4th most important for both men and women behind traits such as warm, reliable, and fair.
