night award chart is being introduced in 2019 where the amount of points required for a free
night will depend on peak, standard and off - peak
pricing at all hotels.
Free Room Nights Unlike other hotel companies, Hilton properties use a dynamic
award pricing system to determine how many points are needed to get a free hotel
night.
For a single Starpoint
price, you'll receive a 5 -
night award stay and 50,000 airline miles (at any 1:1 airline transfer partner):
This DoubleTree is conveniently
priced at no more than 20,000 Hilton points per
night for an
award stay.
The issue is that it must be the * lowest *
priced option, Saturday
Night stayover, and 21 + days advance purchase for a ticket to be a 25k
award.
In the last two days the community has been abuzz with Wyndham's announcement that they're doing away with their
award chart entirely and implementing a new «one size fits all»
pricing of 15,000 points per
night for all the hotel chains in their portfolio.
If you don't have enough points, you can purchase up to 5,000 points — enough for at least 1 GoFast
award night — at a
price of $ 11 for 1,000 points, close to the value of the points.
This hotel went for 95,000 points per
night (the highest
award price for a standard room) which came out to a redemption rate of.62 cents per point.
To qualify for this
award, a property must have at least four stars and four bubbles on TripAdvisor, and offer annual nightly average rates that are at least 20 percent below the city average and cost less than $ 300 per
night based on hotel
prices available on TripAdvisor.
In March 2014 Club Carlson introduced a new top - tier in its program which immediately raised the cost of an
award night (at one of the better hotels) from 50,000 to 70,000 points per
night — a staggering 40 %
price increase!
19 properties are moving categories with 15 properties seeing the
price of
award nights increase and 4 properties seeing the cost fall.
although, recently, I haven't had the best luck finding
award nights when
prices have been high.
This credit card effectively meant that a 2 -
night weekend break at a Club Carlson property never cost me more than the
price of a single
award night....
One method that I've seen people use to value their hotel points is to find the average
price charged by one of the top / aspirational properties (that they'd like to stay at) and then divide that by the number of points needed for an
award night at that hotel.

prices are too high for you an
award night will only set you back 12,000 Starpoints (it's another Cat.
Pricing for qualified organizations: Host your next event at the

If Hilton was upping the cost of the remaining
award nights to the maximum then the

For most of us this promotion is our best chance to visit one of these properties as the cash
prices can be ridiculous and the regular
award night prices aren't far behind.
To make the deal even more tempting, all IHG Rewards
award night bookings are flexible and refundable while the best cash
price quoted (above) is an advance rate that's not flexible at all.
I wouldn't pay $ 450 or $ 370 for a hotel room so this promotion would be no good to me if I was looking to book an
award night just with points I'd purchased but that's not how everyone feels — different people have different comfort zones when it comes to hotel
prices.
At the top - end hotels there's definitely value to be had out of this promotion (especially during busier times) but, when
prices are very high,
award nights can be harder to find so make sure there's availability before you commit to a points purchase.
Compare the
price you'd have to pay for the points for an
award night to the cash
price of the room for a
night you'd like to stay — that will tell you if you can save money by buying points.

prices often exceed $ 250 /
night.....
As part of my «Battle of the Budget Hotels» research, I tried to book an
award night with Choice, but could either not find availability or the point
prices were so high that it was not worth redeeming points.
After comparing the hotels» rankings to their
prices, I settled on the Le Meridien Koh Samui and was able to find
awards available on SPG.com for 6,000 points and $ 110 per
night.
The new tool shows the old
price for
award nights and the new
prices that will kick in in late February.
Perhaps the most valuable elite perk is getting five
award nights for the
price of four.
Living the dream on card rewards Those who don't know us very well may think we are living the high life, but the truth is that our $ 250 hotel room near the line of totality during the eclipse was booked for 3,000 Starwood Preferred Guest points; our flight to Wyoming was 100 percent free on a private plane thanks to a crazy JetSmarter promotion for those who could prove they had a million miles; our resort complete with water slides and a lazy river in San Antonio was booked using an annual credit card
award night when the room normally costs $ 300 - plus per
night; our amazing room at the Park Hyatt New York was booked using 30,000 Hyatt points per
night when the selling
price was almost $ 1,000 per
night; and most of our other flights were booked via a collection of airline miles and credit card points that were primarily earned by leveraging our everyday spending for major rewards.
Instead of setting fixed
prices, Marriott Rewards actually gives you added flexibility by allowing you to specify a combination of
award nights and paid
nights in a single reservation of two
nights or more.
On the downside, Hilton did away with its
award charts in 2017 in exchange for the Hilton Honors points calculator and a promise that the number of points needed for a free
night wouldn't ever be higher than what the
price was for that particular hotel category.
In some cases, Hilton explained, an
award night might even be cheaper with this dynamic
pricing model.
With
award pricing now going as high as 95,000 points per
night those amazing values are no more.
Check the hotel you want on your dates to see if the retail
price is higher or lower than the
price you would get if you purchased the points today for an
award night.
In the last month or so, while planning my winter jaunt to Italy, I've been noticing some odd premium
award night pricing, and today finally decided to get to the bottom of it.
While Hilton's points can have variable value, and you have to be careful about how the system
prices out
awards (See: Hilton stinks at math: book
award nights separately), this is still a pretty strong offer to pick up a bunch of Hilton points.
That's what I'm calling an «odd»
price for premium
award nights.

For example, while the US Bank Club Carlson credit cards offered the last
night free on
award stays, there was no limit to the number of 2 -
night stays you could book at half
price.
It is worth noting that this list represents just over 1 % of Hyatt's 500 + properties, though the
price of these
award nights has gone up 36 % from the old Category 6 rates.
Well, the new
award chart keeps those
prices in place but changes the rules so that you are charged per
night.
The
award rate of only 10,000 Hilton Honors points per
night (or $ 40) is a great bargain considering the cash
price of over $ 100 at time of booking.
