One of the most common questions people have
with e-readers and e-books is the exact
number of
pages are inconsistent
with the
print edition.
The Kindle, however, offers more precise location information
with a percentage and location marker, along
with a
page number that may or may not correspond
with the
print edition.
The take homes from this survey might not be hugely unexpected but the figures are most definitely worth studying (though the calculation of the
number of books being read in the KU programme that they begin
with seems to fail to account for the difference between the way
numbers of
pages are counted in
print books and on Kindle, which makes one wonder a little).
Even though the
page numbers here track along
with the
print counterpart's
page numbers, when you reach the start of a new
print page, tiny
numbers appear in the right column to signify the top of the new
page.

The work plays
with our assumptions on what constitutes sculpture: a white cuboid only at a close distance reveals to be composed of sheets of A4 office paper, painstakingly stacked one on top of the other, each reproducing the
page number in the sequential order in which they were
printed to reach a set height.

Those who rely «almost entirely (or entirely)» on Canlii for primary sources may depend on paper sources for historic content — a perusal of legal research
with pinpoint citations to «
page number (s)» would suggest such is the case because often content on the commercial databases don't include the
page numbers from the original
print text from which they were reproduced.
Legal ebooks either don't have
page numbers or the
page numbering is unique to the electronic version and not synching
with the
print book.
