EDUTOPIA: How do these sensibilities and values from your past inform
your priorities as a school leader today?
We spoke with El - Mekki about his educational background,
his priorities as a school leader, and how he plans to inspire more African American males to become teachers.

Much is still unknown about the repercussions of Brexit and for independent
schools our
priorities should be
as they have always been — the happiness and progression of our current students and staff, and looking to attract and educate the next generation of learners and
leaders.
Performance managers should not set targets against all the points of the standards, but rather take a view of the development of their own
school leaders in the context of continuous improvement and identify
priority areas for the next stage, informed by the standards
as a whole.
Speaking to more than 1,000 heads and teachers at the Association of
School and College

As leaders of academic and instructional areas for their
school districts, chief academic officers play a critical leadership role in creating the vision, direction, and
priorities for growth in student achievement.

as to our students and families.
One measure to which I would give
priority is for children throughout Africa, from the first grade of primary
school through the last year of secondary
school, to be taught the values of justice, fairness, and accountability
as part of the normal curriculum, so they might grow into the
leaders and citizens that Africa needs.
