The BPEC cell developed by the researchers is based on the naturally occurring process of photosynthesis in plants, in which light drives electrons that
produce storable chemical energetic molecules, that are the fuels of all cells in the animal and plant worlds.
«If you can create an efficient enough molecule for this reaction, it will
produce energy that is free and
storable in the form of fuels,» said Li, associate professor in the IU Bloomington College of Arts and Sciences» Department of Chemistry.
