The
year we
changed our focus
from textbooks,
programs, supplies, schedules, buildings, grades, test scores, etc.
to focus on the heart of the matter at the root level (culture, identity, will, beliefs, thoughts, emotions, empathy, relationships, etc.), we transformed our performance data.
We did not, for example, randomly assign
programs or even particular programmatic components
to schools and teachers;
to do so would have violated what we have learned
from the last 20
years of research on school
change — that school staffs must be involved in creating the
programs for which they will be held accountable.

program at the same school.
