At the AAC, we offer innovative ways for children and young adults to become involved with animal welfare by working closely with local youth programs and giving them the chance to interact one - on - one with our animals.

MFOA is particularly excited about its new involvement with a program that offers a unique opportunity to educate others by working with Maine elementary schools to teach young children the responsibility of having a pet and how to care for and protect companion animals.

In addition, HERAKUT are also involved with a variety of charity organizations — where the two work with children in schools and youth programs teaching young people to create a world for themselves — inside their minds.

The group, for example, identified problems encountered by young people who «age out» of the state's mental health system for children, work that contributed to significant changes, including a $ 3 million program to help with the transition to the adult system.

Although the program is designed for pediatricians, it could be useful to anyone working with parents of young children.

For children who were pre-adolescent and in early adolescence at the beginning of these studies, negative impacts on schooling outcomes (e.g. grade repetition) are found, regardless of whether the program included earnings supplements or not.21 These negative effects were most pronounced for adolescents with younger siblings, suggesting that single parents may have relied on their adolescents for the care of the younger children as they went to work, and these responsibilities may have impeded adolescents» schooling.

Illinois» Fathers for New Futures (FNF) hosts the Power of Fathers Symposium, a statewide collaborative of nonprofits that seeks to strengthen and support low - income minority fathers in developing relationships with their children, families, and communities.77 Among its programs, FNF provides job readiness training, parent education, case management, child support information, and additional services to young fathers and men trying to reconnect with their families.78 FNF also hosts a working group of practitioners, and research and policy experts that supports outcomes for children of noncustodial, African - American fathers.79

ECEs are working with young children in multiple programs that support a crucial phase of development in which children develop the basic cognitive, social and emotional skills used to thrive in learning and developing their own unique talents and skills.

Probably the most extensive evaluation of program effects on very young children was undertaken in Canada's Self - Sufficiency Project (SSP), the voluntary earnings supplement program that had large initial effects on full - time employment and income.5 Despite concerns that increases in full - time work would reduce parents» time with their young children, no effects on children were found either at the 36 - month follow - up point, when a test of language comprehension was administered to the children who would then have been three to five years of age, or at the 54 - month follow - up point, when parents were asked about their children's school performance.

The contributors to this issue of Zero to Three illustrate the diverse settings and situations that early childhood professionals confront in their work with young children and families: A busy morning in a pediatric clinic; the traumatic aftermath of domestic violence; guiltridden parents worried about the health of their infant; mothers with severe psychiatric disorders; reflective supervision in an early intervention program; and peer - group support for enhancing social and emotional development in child care settings.

The main focus of the partnership was to implement the Kids Count Program, which allowed for a psychologist to work on - site with Alunga staff to strengthen educators» knowledge and understanding of the social and emotional needs of young children, build their capacity and skills in effectively responding to a child's individual needs, and recognise when a child and family may need additional psychological support and a referral to the Kids Count Program psychologist.

Planned Parenthood educational programs and outreach not only focus on AIDS / HIV prevention and family planning, but also training professionals who work with children, teenagers, and young adults who go on to work in a variety of health care fields.

We work with the family or trusted adults in the lives of children and young people involved in the program.

There are few research or intervention programs designed to identify and address the specific needs of sandwiched individuals like myself to help them cope better.2 We know that members of the sandwiched generation (who care for young children and aging parents) often face burnout in their marriages, 2 which is feeling emotionally, physically, and mentally exhausted about the relationship.3 One group of researchers found that sandwiched couples who withdraw socially (e.g., pull away from friends) tend to have the worst well - being compared to those who do not withdraw.4 Although sandwiched women typically reduce the their work hours (or quit their jobs altogether) more than men in order to cope with stress, 5 I have never had that luxury due to always being the sole breadwinner.

Fundamentally, programs and services need to be underpinned by an ongoing commitment to listening and responding to the views of Aboriginal children and young people, and it is the role of all organisations that work with Aboriginal children and young people to ensure these meaningful conversations continue.

Florida MIECHV is working to create a «culture of quality» in programs that serve families with young children by integrating continuous quality improvement (CQI) into its programming and activities.
