in the HIV /
AIDS prevention branch, West supported the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS)
project, an ongoing
effort that studies prevalence of infection
in specific risk groups
in cities.
We hope each of these contributors are personally gratified
in knowing that they are furthering a major
effort in aiding habitat preservation and species survival — as a key component of
Project Passenger Pigeon.

There is a need for governments, the private sector, civil society and international organisations and

efforts to build the capacity of indigenous communities, including
in the area of human rights, so that they may participate equally and meaningfully
in the planning, design, negotiation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, programs and
projects that affect them.
