A recent Geophysical Research Letters study found that the Arctic permafrost contains 32 million gallons of mercury, which is
projected to adversely affect our global
air, food, water and soil supplies as the Earth
warms and the permafrost unthaws, releasing the neurotoxin.
The
project's chief engineers counted on cooling sticks and other tricks to help the rails withstand soil
warming of 0.2 degree C and
air warming of 2 degrees C on the plateau over the next 50 years.
The 2011 UNEP / WMO assessment and the related article by Shindell et al. in Science in 2012 indicate that an aggressive program to limit emissions of these substances could relatively inexpensively cut
projected warming between the present and 2050 in half while also having tremendous co-benefits for health,
air quality, and improved energy efficiency, in the US and around the world.
However, a new University of Minnesota study with more than 1,000 young trees has found that plants also adjust — or acclimate — to a
warmer climate and may release only one - fifth as much additional carbon dioxide than scientists previously believed, The study, published today in the journal Nature, is based on a five - year
project, known as «B4Warmed,» that simulated the effects of climate change on 10 boreal and temperate tree species growing in an open -
air setting in 48 plots in two forests in northern Minnesota.
Scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory within the Atmospheric, Earth, and Energy Division, along with collaborators from the U.K. Met Office and other modeling centers around the world, organized an international multi-model intercomparison
project, name CAUSES (Clouds Above the United States and Errors at the Surface), to identify possible causes for the large
warm surface
air temperature bias seen in many weather forecast and climate model simulations.
He
projects the US government's Storm Prediction Center website on the wall to highlight necessary ingredients for «tornadogenesis»:
warm and cold
air colliding, moisture, wind shear to induce rotation — and an X factor not even top scientists understand.
I asked Disantis to ask Field directly if he signed the Global
Warming Petition
Project in a «personal capacity» as to clear the
air.
The «Clean Sky» initiative, reports Israel21c is the largest European research
project ever and is designed to tackle global
warming — with a budget estimated to reach over 1.6 billion Euros, the
project «aims to radically improve the impact of
air transport on the environment with the goal of eliminating environmental pollution by reducing greenhouse gases.»
In the future, Earth's plants should be able to successfully adjust their physiology to accommodate a
warming of the magnitude and rate - of - rise that is typically predicted by climate models to accompany the
projected future increase in the
air's CO2 content.
Using the IPCC 2xCO2 climate sensitivity of 3 °C and the logarithmic relation, we would have had
warming of 1.8 °C with no
air capture
project.
Since then there are a number of papers published on why the
warming was statistically insignificant including a recent one by Richardson et al. 2016 which tries to explain that the models were
projecting a global tas (temperature
air surface) but the actual observations are a combination of tas (land) and SST oceans, meaning
projected warming shouldn't be as much as
projected.
One study estimates that there are likely to be places on Earth where unprotected humans without cooling mechanisms, such as
air conditioning, would die in less than six hours if global average surface temperature rises by about 12.6 ° F (7 ° C).16 With
warming of 19.8 - 21.6 ° F (11 - 12 ° C), this same study
projects that regions where approximately half of the world's people now live could become intolerable.7
«Projections of Antarctic SMB changes over the 21st century thus indicate a negative contribution to sea level because of the
projected widespread increase in snowfall associated with
warming air temperatures (Krinner et al., 2007; Uotila et al., 2007; Bracegirdle et al., 2008).
That's brought a more complete understanding of how
warmer air temperatures —
projected to surpass those regularly experienced on Earth at any point during at least the last few million years — are affecting the sea level.

There certainly have been times in the past when the Earth was
warmer than it is now, but climate scientists
project that we're only at the start of a
warming response to the CO2 that's already in the
air (not to mention all the additional CO2 that will be going into the
air in years to come.)
