In their previous work, the scientists suspected that C / EBPα may act as a tumor suppressant in normal cells, but the mechanism by which its absence
promoted lung cancer tumors remained unclear.

A team of researchers, led by Ross Cagan, PhD, developed a multi-gene
lung cancer model in the fruit fly Drosophila to better understand the mechanisms that
promote tumors in NSCLC.
To demonstrate the potential for treating
lung disease, the researchers used the nanoparticles to block two genes that have been implicated in
lung cancer — VEGF receptor 1 and Dll4, which
promote the growth of blood vessels that feed
tumors.
«Our findings indicate the existence of long - distance interactions between
lung tumors and bones:
lung tumors remotely activate osteoblasts, and those bone cells, in turn, shape immunity by supplying
tumors with
cancer -
promoting neutrophils,» says Pittet, who is an associate professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School.
«Researchers inhibit
tumor growth in new subtype of
lung cancer: Insight into
tumor suppressing and
tumor promoting mechanisms offers potential for new treatments.»
The researchers expanded the relevance of these findings to
lung carcinoma, showing that soluble antibodies are generally important in the
tumor microenvironment to induce accumulation of MDSCs and
promote cancer progression.
Lung cancer is not the only type of
tumor that can induce a state
promoting inappropriate clotting, though, so if heart disease is not found, a
tumor search should be initiated with abdominal ultrasound.
