high academic
standards, and
promoting involvement with the community as a way
of addressing nonacademic barriers to student
achievement.
Advocates
of accountability insist that
high standards for all students are necessary to
promote academic growth and spur
achievement to levels heretofore unseen.
While necessary and appealing, this drive toward
higher standards raises justifiable concern: Are schools
promoting academic excellence for those who already have a competitive advantage, while turning away from the far more difficult task
of fostering
achievement among those who do not?
The most common «mistake» I see in resumes today (other than typos, grammatical errors and the unmistakable proof that a resume was hastily prepared, or worse, built with a
standard Word template used by a
high percentage
of candidates), is a lack
of focus on one's
achievements and / or the inability to
promote a unique, yet compelling value proposition.
