Increasing the
expression of one of the
proteins, SIX3, in the insulin - producing cells isolated
from younger donors enhanced their ability to respond efficiently to rising glucose
levels.
Further research could test these cancer stem cell gene
expression at the RNA and
protein level in circulating tumor cells and biopsies
from patients on trial.
In addition, gastrocnemius muscles
from IL - 15Rα — KO mice expressed higher
levels of mRNA for the sarcoplasmic endoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase - II (SERCA2) and lower mRNA
expression and
protein content of the calcium - binding
protein calsequestrin (Figure 5, F and G).
The muscles
from IL - 15Rα — KO mice had a greater relative
expression of the SERCAII isoform and lower mRNA and
protein levels of calsequestrin, both characteristic of slow muscles (52).
As shown in Fig. 5A, decreased
expression of DDX3 at the
protein level was found in 73 % of HCC
from 26 patients.
A reliability score is set manually for all genes and indicates the
level of reliability of the analyzed
protein expression pattern based on available
protein / RNA / gene characterization data
from both HPA and the UniProtKB / Swiss - Prot database.
(H) Spleen CD4 + T cells harvested
from VPA recipients and control mice on day 21 were analyzed by Western blot assay for the
expression and phosphorylation
level of Akt and downstream target
proteins.
The mean
expression level and confidence limits of HMOX1
protein were estimated
from the raw pixel intensities using JMP software (SAS Institute).
mRNA molecules contain the instructions for making
proteins — the number of mRNAs
from a given gene is a measure of the
level of
expression of that gene.
Thus, as anticipated
from earlier studies, heterogeneity of pluripotency gene
expression in single cells is to a degree reflected at the
protein level.
The recent recognition that de novo lipogenesis might have relevance for lipid homeostasis in skeletal muscle stems
from the realization that Sterol regulatory element binding
protein - 1c (SREBP - 1c), a member of the family of transcription factors that regulate the
expression of genes involved in lipid storage in liver and adipose tissue, is also present in skeletal muscle at a
level close to that observed in the liver, 41,42... [M] ost fascinating are the very recent demonstrations that glucose alone (in the absence of insulin) can stimulate de novo lipogenesis in skeletal muscle cells....
