General anesthesia is
provided by inhaling medication through an
anesthesia mask or by IV and the patient loses consciousness.
Providing any dental care to pets without full
general anesthesia is below the standard of care of the American Animal Hospital Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association, and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, and is considered indefensible by the American Veterinary Dental College.

provided after surgery to any patient undergoing a tooth extraction procedure.6

general anesthesia and include a complete evaluation and therapeutic treatment of your pet's teeth and gums.
The only safe way to do a thorough dental examination and
provide therapeutically beneficial dental treatment is with the animal under a surgical plane of
general anesthesia with a properly fitted, cuffed endotracheal tube in place.

general anesthesia in offices where the dentist is permitted to
provide those services.
