In an effort to provide a cost - effective alternative to constructing traditional brick - and - mortar towers at currently non-towered airports, the FAA is exploring
the provision of air traffic control services through the use of remote tower systems.
The Senate rejected a measure to privatize
air traffic control earlier this year, after the importance
of passing other
provisions in the bill outweighed stretching the contentious debate any longer.
