Students learn the basics
of each
model, review that
model's understanding
of psychic change and discuss how it might be integrated with
psychodynamic therapy and other therapeutic approaches.
A breath

therapy, each varied and complex case (presented in a variety
of writing styles: case reports, session - by - session narratives, single session transcripts) is approached with a combination
of methods ranging from traditional
psychodynamic and cognitive approaches and applications
of attachment theory to innovative trauma methods including EMDR and Levine's SIBAM
model.
The absence
of a stepped approach: in
psychodynamic approaches assessment is an ongoing process throughout treatment, not an initial step; there is an absence
of any over-arching aim to explain the problems that presented at referral; the therapeutic process is relatively unstructured and therefore unamenable to the type
of manualisation other
therapy models have developed.
It was the mainstay
of the 1st Edition
of Integrated Family
Therapy, a problem - centred
model that took account
of family structure, organisation and transactional processes (with less emphasis upon intra-psychic factors, despite its subtitle, a problem - centred
psychodynamic approach).
For example,
psychodynamic theory had not been taught to structural family
therapy trainees in Philadelphia, nor to those learning the McMaster
model in Hamilton, Ontario (although many
of their trainees were quite familiar with
psychodynamic concepts).

Psychodynamic, Person - centred and Existential - Transpersonal theories and this
model of work used with clients has evolved as I went through
therapy myself as well as practising / learning different theories in training and work placement.
I have a broad training in a number
of psychological

Psychodynamic psychotherapy, CBT, Mentalisation Based
Therapy, Compassion Focused
Therapy, and Narrative Explosure
Therapy.
However, I integrate other

Trained initially in relational
psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Women's
Therapy Center in El Cerrito and subsequently with the Institute
of Contemporary Psychoanalysis
of Northern California, she has more recently been immersed in attachment based modalities, most notably Emotionally Focused Couples
Therapy as well as Diana Fosha's AEDP
model for individuals.

of our couples therapists have advanced training in at least one
