Main outcome measures were Bayley's Scales of Infant Development at age 13 months (Mental Index, MDI;
Psychomotor Index, PDI), Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scales of Intelligence (WPPSI - R), and Peabody Developmental Scales at age 5.
The risk for children breast fed for less than three months of a low
psychomotor index was, in contrast, not significantly increased.
The psychomotor index did not differ significantly between the groups (p = 0.09), although there was a trend (p < 0.05) towards increasing scores with increasing duration of breast feeding.
