Childhood sexual abuse and childhood physical abuse are
among the strongest predictors of psychiatric pathology and severity of clinical course, including suicide.2,4 - 14 The influence of childhood sexual abuse and childhood physical abuse on psychological development is thought to be mediated directly by changes in cognitive processing of threatening stimuli,15 - 18 resulting in enhanced negative affect to daily life stressors.19 Although there is a clear link between early - life adversity and

psychopathology.13, 14
Aberrant emotional attention, particularly
among individuals high on aggression, constitutes one such deficit; however, its robustness across race / ethnicity requires further investigation given findings that the psychopathy construct manifests differently across race (Sullivan and Kosson 2006), and emotional attention is susceptible to the influence of adverse environmental factors such as violence exposure that is more common
among ethnic minority youth (Kimonis et al. in Development and
Psychopathology, 20, 569 — 589, 2008b).

We found 12 studies investigating infant
psychopathology or developmental impairments, 6 studies comparing mother - child interactions
among normal control mothers compared to mothers presenting with a mental or medical condition, and 5 studies investigating the subtypes of child attachment styles.
Recently, Kelly and El - Sheikh (2014) used cross-lagged modeling to examine the reciprocal relations
among sleep functioning (using both actigraphy and self - report ratings) and
psychopathology symptoms over a 5 - year period that included the transition into adolescence.
