of students suffer from bullying, anxiety, stress, depression, and similar concerns, school nurses are on the front line
of addressing mental health problems, too (Bohnenkemp, Stephan, & Bobo, 2015; Perou et al., 2013)-- roughly a third
of all visits to school nurses have to do with mental health issues (and related
psychosomatic symptoms, such as headaches and stomachaches).

Eleven studies reported an effect based on a single composite score for
psychosomatic complaints, whereas the remaining studies reported data for a number
of different
symptoms distinctly (eg, headache, stomachache, backache, abdominal pain, dizziness, sleeping problems, poor appetite, bedwetting, skin problems, vomiting; see Table 1).
Subsequently, another meta - analysis3 has analyzed data from longitudinal studies that measured a variety
of internalizing problems, including
psychosomatic symptoms.
However, Reijntjes and colleagues» review included only 2 studies that measured
psychosomatic symptoms; unfortunately, these
symptoms were not distinguished from other types
of internalizing problems (eg, depression, anxiety, or loneliness), but a pooled correlation for each study was computed, with no comparison between bullied and nonbullied children.
Furthermore, there was a strong association between a high level
of musculoskeletal pain and the exhibition
of psychosomatic symptoms in both women and men; this is an interaction that may intensify the total experience
of illness and thus needs to be further investigated.

symptoms in children, and that interventions including family therapy and school - based programs are effective for bullies and victims.
These findings are consistent with previous studies that have demonstrated a mediating effect
of parent — child relationships and material resources on the relationship between
psychosomatic health and living arrangements.31, 44, 45 Positive relationships to parents have been found to be more common in children in JPC than in single care, in particular to the fathers.13, 32, 46 Children's satisfaction with their material resources was included as a potential mediator since economic stress has previously been shown to be associated with
psychosomatic symptoms in children29 and is more common among children with separated parents.4, 13 Also, these conditions reduced the differences in
psychosomatic health between the living arrangements.
