I was discussing this with someone yesterday, going back and forth at possible explanations, which included that self -
pubbed authors tend to work the review mines harder than their trad
pubbed peers, or have more
support from other indie
authors reviewing, or get higher ratings due to the generally lower price of the work (greater satisfaction due to a price / performance expectation).
All this talk reminds me just how important to a self -
pubbed author their own
support community is.
One book we recommend is written by global indie
author M.A. Demers (available EVERYWHERE through every major e-retailer's catalog) and is one of the best all inclusive self -
pub help / advice /
support books out there.
I'm a TP
author but I also self -
pub and I have notice that for my latest SP release, I've had no marketing email sent out by Amazon, and reviews have been removed, when I did get email marketing
support from Amazon and no reviews removed at the beginning of the year.
So many indies think they need a «professional website» as well as a blog in order to be «real
authors», but here you are — a trad
pubbed author —
supporting my advice: One site is plenty, people!
Big name
authors in the trad
pub world have lots of incentives to stay (they get lots of marketing $ and
support).
I've met a lot of
authors from the trad world who weren't happy with their covers, the relationship with the editor, or lack of overall marketing
support, and while I think indie
pub may be more work than some people want to put in, it bears serious consideration.
If RT makes claims to
support self -
pubbed authors, then why not put their money where their mouth is and seat
authors in alpha order?
