public school lunch room, in a relatively affluent neighborhood in central Houston, btw, and have seen (and photographed) poorly prepared food — items that are still frozen, items like green vegetables that are grossly overcooked, to the point of almost being brown, etc..
Anyone who read last December's New York Times report on beef processing might understandably shudder when watching a child eat a hamburger in
a public school lunch room.

Having taught for some years in the
public school system of MS, I can say that in many of the rural
schools in this state (likely the same in nearby states as well for rural
schools) have many football players on free or reduced price
school lunch programs and very poor training and weight
room facilities.
But in terms of the tone used by the
lunch room volunteers — I will say that my two kids are now old veterans of
public elementary
school lunch rooms and they've certainly endured their share of barking
lunch room monitors.
Since my kids are not yet in middle
school, I have yet to fully experience the impact of «competitive» food in the
public school setting — i.e., beverage vending machines stocked exclusively with Coca - Cola products (thanks to a multimillion dollar deal Coke struck with our district a few years back — more on that to come), snack vending machines, branded products like Papa John's pizza in the
lunch room, and more.

Write poems on poster - size board, laminate them, and hang them in
public places throughout the
school: hallways,
lunch rooms, playgrounds, libraries.
