The building their lordships are moving into seems to be a rather good one, designed to let
the public see justice being done and, quite separate from Parliament... something, one would have thought, which would have appealed to their lordships» sense of independence.

President Barack Obama said in a
public statement that the U.S. «will not waver in our commitment to
see that
justice is done for this terrible act — and make no mistake,
justice will
be done.»
But like it or not, the
justices are public figures who make law, and the
public is entitled to
see how the Supreme Court
does its job.
What I would like to
see, and so would the
public,
are sincere efforts to
do something about the ruinously high cost of litigation, and an end to the campaign to harm the practices of small firm solicitors in the guise of «
doing something» about access to
justice.
Even the judiciary have become embroiled in the debate, heavily criticising many of the Lord Chancellor's decisions, and in
doing so upholding and facilitating access to

The only likely way in which that will happen
is if Khrapunov
is present in court in London in person: «the administration of
justice is liable to
be brought into disrepute if the court
is disabled from enforcing a freezing order in the most effective way possible» and «The
public interest in the court trying to give maximum practical effect to the freezing order it has granted against him and in
being seen to
do so
is strong».
The
public rely upon good investigative journalism to represent its interests, and to act as a visible monitor of the courts, ensuring that
justice can
be seen to
be done.
