public support for the Common Core and its related standardized testing program.

One of the poll's most important findings this year is that
support for the
Common Core State Standards has dropped, but that a majority of the
public still favors the standards.

public at large, teachers are more likely to express
support for the
Common Core when the survey question does not include the accountability phrase.
In «The
Common Core Takes Hold,» Robert Rothman of the Alliance
for Excellent Education acknowledges a number of McShane's concerns: states» shrinking budgets will likely impact the funding necessary
for implementation; there is little to no quality monitoring of the new resources that are being created; the new assessments — and the technology required to implement them — are hugely expensive; the
public at large is poorly informed and their
support for the standards is waning; and a significant drop in student test scores following implementation of
Common Core - aligned assessments is a real concern.
Among the
public at large,
support for the
Common Core has fallen from a high of 65 % to 53 % in 2014 and to 49 % in 2015.
What these workers have in
common — besides earning wages that make it impossible to
support a family without relying on
public assistance — is that they all work
for employers who can easily afford to pay their workers a living wage.

Common Core from the state's business community, some conservative critics wildly claim the higher standards are a federal plot to take over
public education.

The 46th annual Phi Delta Kappa / Gallup poll on the
public's attitude toward
public schools also shows that although America's
support for the
Common Core State Standards is waning and the
public questions the benefits of standardized tests and international assessments, two out of three
public school parents would still give high marks to the school that their children attend.
The second wave of reforms needed to transform American
public education involve
supporting policies such as implementing
Common Core that are considered anathema
for many reasons by many of their movement conservative fellow - travelers.
The Obama administration's implicit
support for states enacting
Common Core, embedded through both Race to the Top and the No Child waiver gambit, is only the most - recent step in moving away from the patchwork of standards and curricula (often developed by teachers on their own in slapdash fashion) that has dominated American
public education
for most of the past two centuries.
CCSA announced
support for the bill earlier this year after fighting
for common sense amendments that strengthen equity, access and due process

public school students facing dismissal.
