Just as an aside, since posting the above about nonfiction eBooks, I came across a post that compiles 2011 statistics for self -
published eBook sales that you and the readers of this blog may find interesting.
The fact that traditionally
published ebook sales fell 10 % last year isn't the full picture.
And while Amazon's Kindle store alone doesn't comprise the entire US ebook market, it does account for 67 % of all traditionally -

In 2014, self - published books made up 16 percent of all ebook sales in the UK; in 2015, that number shot up to 22 percent as traditionally
published ebook sales dropped while sales of the self - published variety rose.
And while Amazon's Kindle store alone doesn't comprise the entire US ebook market, it does account for 67 % of all traditionally -
published ebook sales by most accounts.
And in fact, while traditionally
published ebook sales were slightly down from the year before, self - published ebooks only gained in popularity.

So, it's fairer to say that trade
published ebook sales are falling but indie ebook sales are not.
Jeff Goins, in contrast, has enjoyed massive self -
published eBook sales through Amazon in addition to traditional publishing and distribution sales.

So I'll be following this up with the first in a series of
ebooks designed to help you get
published, market your book and get
sales.
Many self -
published authors rely on online
sales of both print books and
ebooks though, so, okay, a badly designed book might not necessarily put off all prospective buyers.
If indeed indie
ebooks have already garnered a quarter of the industry's unit «
sales» in such a short period of time, that's a huge power shift in the
publishing world.
You will not miss out on a potential
sale just because a reader would like a particular format, simply activate all three formats by clicking «Paperback, Hardcover and
eBook» in the first step of the
publishing process.

eBook publishing option, Lulu authors were flocking to make digital files available, and succeeding in increasing their
sales.
It's a numbers game: like it or not, independent
publishing already gives almost half the
ebook unit
sales of the market and seems unstoppable.
Though many companies have invested in digital
publishing,
ebook sales have not been able to make up for the print losses.
I can spend a lot of time quoting figures on
eBook and print
sales (and analysing how efficacious they are, given the erratic quality of
published numbers), but it isn't necessary for this discussion.
We pay around $ 500 for all
eBooks we
publish, plus possible additional money from
sales (our
eBooks are initially given away for free), and new editions.

I think if

publishing imprints between them account for 14 % of all US

Bear in mind that this does not include

published authors, which is the fastest growing segment in
ebooks thanks to the many new tools and options available.
Self -
published indie authors are verifiably capturing at least 20 % — 35 % of all multi-country
ebook sales at each retailer.
While the news of the 79 % increase in self -
published sales is exciting for the way it demonstrates how much of the associated stigma is dissolving, there is still a long way to go before the bookselling industry reaches that long - awaited prediction of
ebooks wiping out the print market altogether.

Yet completely ignores the popularity and
sales of Indie
published ebooks.
Self -
published or legacy
published,
ebooks are still holding ground at around one - fourth of total book
sales.
But does the typical self -
published author with two
ebooks on Amazon stand to benefit from selling his books through his own website, also known as the online equivalent of setting up a
sales booth from the back of their car?
Smashwords is a self -
publishing service that allows authors to submit
eBooks and list them for
sale on Amazon, Apple, Kobo, Barnes and Noble and other major retailers.
Maybe it would be more accurate to simply say that print
sales are up this quarter, without claiming to know what direction
ebook sales as a whole including self -
published titles are headed in.
Amazon accounts for approximately 75 % of
ebook sales in the US and according to an article you
published in March 2017, an estimated 95 % of
ebook sales in the UK.
