The happiest part of the
ebook saga has been the
success now being enjoyed by self
published authors.
According to Mark Coker in The Secrets to

A lot of established traditionally -
published midlist authors are seeing huge
success (as well as increased income) by making their backlist available as self -
published ebooks.
They know that pleasing their customers with innovative tools that will help them get improved
success, keeps Amazon as the integral part of the
eBook publishing and
eBook reading environment.
However, sales of independently
published ebooks have been growing, which instead suggests that publishers are losing
ebook market shares to indie authors and Amazon imprints, rather than that the
success of digital books and their consumption is dropping overall.

But like the much heralded
success of authors Amanda Hocking and John Locke, both of whom have each sold more than one million copies of their self -
published ebooks before going on to sign contracts with major
publishing houses, Wilkinson is open to the idea of traditional
publishing and has already heard from some print publishers, although he admits he didn't set out to be an author.
Independent Authors might see greater

The sentiment slowly melted into cautious optimism as
ebook sales began to account for more and more of publishers» profit margins and as self -
published authors began to make headlines for their
success.
Some bestselling authors are happy with their
success and don't feel the need to alter their methods when it comes to their standard titles, but some of those same authors are enjoying the opportunities that

publishing affords, such as the chance to experiment with switching genres or exploring with new types of writing.

As one of the faculty, I sat in on the revealing and occasionally contentious discussion with other panelists from traditional

publishing eBooks will hopefully mean I can avoid (at least a few) mistakes along the way.
But it's worth noting that there have been few
successes to point to in the attempts to enhance
ebooks with audio and video, and it's hard to know if the format was the failure or some other cog in the
publishing / distribution cycle.
