publishing that 1) It is easier to get national publicity because producers give more weight to a traditionally
published book, particularly from a larger house (though some self -
published authors certainly do get national publicity as well — it's
just harder, in general and 2) a traditional publisher is generally going to bring a great deal of experience to the table — from improving the cover or title to layout and design.

publishing and I started out on the ebook
side working for OverDrive, a major distributor of ebooks at public libraries, and focusing on ebooks, so much of it is about the metadata, not
just getting books into channels but also making sure those books, as Justine said, can be discoverable, can be found, and so I started spending a lot more of my time on metadata, and I'm a curious person so I got to know a lot and here I am
Don't get me wrong, that filtering process led to a lot of great work getting
published over the years, and even made a lot of that work better than it would have been otherwise, but I would guess that for every success story of that kind there are
just as many books that went through the wood - chipper of legacy
publishing and came out the other
side half the product it once was.
When it seemed like these newfangled ebooks were actually gaining popularity, both
sides became
just as divided on where digital fit in the
publishing clubhouse.
Most collections of literary letters are
published posthumously and, more often than not, include
just the one -
sided narrative of a single writer.
However, it is no problem for a single author to overcome such a restriction and
publish, let's say, first 20 titles as the «placeholders» (books that have a few pages, two per month,
just to reach the required number)... It is much more wiser to not start such a spiral, because, as every conflict, it consumes resources on both

just how you can make a living as a writer.
The reason traditionally
published authors & the traditional
publishing side has such disdain for self -
publishing is not because anyone & everyone CAN do it, but because MOST of the ones who DO IT have self -
published either unpublishable garbage OR have taken a manuscript with great potential &
published it without decent editing & revision (both of which seriously hinder the enjoyment of the reading audience - not an issue if you're a hobby writer who
just wants to entertain family & friends, but a serious issue for anyone who thinks that that sort of thing can hold its own against carefully revised & edited work).
Since the self -
publishing paradigm addresses mostly
just the ebook
side, we'll stick with that.
There are crappy books
published on the traditional
side as well, so you'll be competing with «crappy books»
just by putting your pen to paper and writing, editing and attempting to
publish.
On the flip
side, many authors choose to self
publish because it
just makes sense: they will get their book out faster and can make more money per copy sold.
But maybe that's
just the perfectionist
side of me coming out — most self
published books I've seen don't do that and quite a lot of traditionally
published ones don't either.
The animation business and the
publishing business are not exactly mirroring the pattern, but
just for data-wise, currently, on the animation
side, after five years — starting in 2008 - 9 — the anime
side our business revenue-wise I think this year we may have 50 % coming from digital.

side, meet label claim, so it is important to seek out products backed by
published research, not
just testimonials, and manufactured by companies that you trust.
