Today, ULAE continues to collaborate with artists to
publish small edition prints and artists» books.
In 2010 Vahtra and graphic designer Indrek Sirkel founded Lugemik, a publishing initiative in Tallinn that
publishes small editions of books and other printed matter, working closely together with artists, writers, designers, printers in every step of the publishing process.

I don't think it's fair to lump all people reading pirated eBooks into the same category, because many of them are victims of higher institutions of learning that force their students to buy course material written by the teachers and
published in very
small print runs, jacking the price of a hardcover textbook up to over $ 100 in many cases, with a new
edition coming out every year, making any «used» book market obsolete.
That combination of excellence and skipping the fancy hardcover
edition tends to favor books that are unusual, edgy, or
published by
smaller houses.
Hopefully, this time B&N will actually identify the needs and wants of self -
published authors and the many
small presses which are still forced to rely on a POD - based model for their paper
editions.
Barblan explained Bowker's initial involvement with these partners as a way to help
smaller entities compete more effectively in the book market; as so many customers begin their involvement in
publishing by seeking out Bowker as a source of ISBN numbers, the next logical step was also the need to have trackable metadata and ebook
editions of those books, leading Bowker to explore fulfilling this need in some way.

Publishing Basics — A Guide for the
Small Press and Independent Self - Publisher was first
published in 2000 as a printed
edition.
This book was
published by a
small boutique outfit called Gaspereau Press and was available only in a
small edition typical of
small presses (they specialize in runs of between 400 and 4,000 copies).
