pupils, increasingly teachers face abusive postings by parents, mostly
about their professional competence, but there have also been threats of physical
violence and false allegations of inappropriate conduct with
pupils or with staff colleagues.

Over the past year, worry
about the effects of domestic
violence on
pupils has increased by 11 % — up from nearly six in 10 (58 %) school leaders expressing concern
about this in 2015 to almost seven in 10 (69 %) in 2016.
The findings also show slight increases in the proportion of school leaders worried
about sexting, drugs and radicalisation for their
pupils, as well as gangs and youth
violence.
75 per cent supported the idea of educating
pupils on the impact of pornography and 82 per cent wanted to see lessons
about violence and abuse in relationships brought to the classrooms.
While
pupil mental health was the most prevalent health and safeguarding concern for school leaders in both 2015 and 2016 when asked
about a range of issues, worry over domestic
violence, drugs and sexting also increased over this period.
In light of these findings, Plan UK is calling for greater support for teachers to prevent incidents of unwanted sexual contact, as well as high - quality statutory sex and relationships education to teach young people
about issues of consent and healthy relationships, and ensuring bullying policies address gender and sexual
violence, providing a safe environment for
pupils to report concerns.
