puppies!
In the summer months, however, the number of citizen - surrendered
animals doubles between the people who surrender their pets to the
Shelter when they go on vacation and the people who didn't fix their pets and dump the
puppies or kittens
at the
Shelter for the rest of us to take care of.
While
animal shelters often neuter
puppies at an earlier age such that they can be neutered prior to adoption, we generally recommend waiting until four to six months of age for neutering.

Animals routinely go from overloaded Southern
shelters like this where euthanasia rates sometimes reach 70 percent to the

Think of it this way: For each adorable

at all for the
animals bred and raised under these miserable conditions, we need to stop buying
puppies from pet stores and instead adopt from local humane societies /
shelters or rescue groups.

They think of moments like the one Carol Everett, a certified humane education specialist who volunteers

puppies at 6 weeks of age - but this is simply because they want to ensure that the
animals are sterilized prior to adoption.
