There is no approved treatment for whipworms in cats, but the feline version of a medicine approved in dogs may work; both milbemycin or praziquantel /
pyrantel pamoate should be effective in
treating the whipworms and are available in tablets suitable for cats.
The ingredient
pyrantel pamoate is used to
treat and control roundworms and hookworms in dogs.
When combined with
pyrantel pamoate it is also used for
treating roundworm and hookworm in dogs.
On SD 0, the dogs assigned to Group 1 were
treated orally with ivermectin /
pyrantel pamoate chewable tablets, Group 2 dogs were
treated orally with milbemycin oxime flavored tablets, Group 3 dogs were
treated with selamectin topical solution, and Group 4 dogs were
treated with imidacloprid / moxidectin topical solution.
Dogs and cats coming in to PAWS are prophylactically
treated with Strongid (
pyrantel pamoate) for roundworms and hookworms, with a Droncit (praziquantel) injection for tapeworms, and Revolution ® (selamectin) topically.

treats roundworms and hookworms.
In addition to routine deworming for round and hookworms with
pyrantel (strongid T), Safari puppies are
treated with metronidazole (flagyl) to prevent giardia; and sulfadimethoxine (albon) to prevent coccidia and ivermectin, which also prevents ear mites.
Roundworms and hookworms can be
treated with a product containing
pyrantel pamoate such as Hartz ® UltraGuard Plus ® Rid Worm Liquid ™ for Dogs and Puppies.
