Thanks to the generous contributions from the Anschutz Foundation and the Daniels Fund, the Colorado League of Charter Schools offers seven planning grants that are designed for groups that are in the process of developing high -
quality charter school models and are writing a charter application.
Fordham leadership and board recognize that the organization can have a positive and significant impact via the authorizing work, and they have supported that growth, due mainly to the replication and expansion of existing, high -
quality charter school models.

school quality matters far more than
school operator, and while the CSO -
model is a promising approach to the district sector, it should be viewed in the context of a city's entire portfolio of
schools — CSO,
charter, and private.

While Connecticut's minority legislators are absolutely right to be demanding that the state support successful educational
models that provide all children with a
quality education, Connecticut's
charter schools are simply not one of those
models.
To date, New Hampshire has quite successfully taken reformation of its public
school system into its own hands through an innovative new learning
model, raising teacher
quality, promoting
charter schools, and raising the dropout age, just to mention a few examples.
Right now, the District has the best of both worlds: a vibrant
charter sector that offers a wide range of learning
models from some of the best
school leaders and a strong, improving and growing DCPS that has responded to
charter competition by revitalizing its commitment to
quality.
Research shows that career pathways can improve teacher evaluation procedures and improve student achievement.13 For example, research from the Emerging Leaders Program — a job - embedded teacher leadership development program — shows that with high -
quality training, teacher leaders can quickly improve achievement among students in high - need
school districts in places such as New York City, the District of Columbia, and Shelby County, Tennessee.14 Likewise, student achievement growth in
schools implementing Teach Plus» T3 Initiative — a teacher - designed turnaround
model that trains and supports teacher leaders to improve
school outcomes and transform
schools — is consistently more than double that of area district and
charter schools.15
(4) Fourth, we can strengthen and expand high -
quality school models — whether they are traditional
schools, magnet
schools,
charter schools, or other successful
models — and hold them accountable for their results and inclusiveness.
The
charter school model holds great promise for developing education innovations and improving the
quality of public education overall, but the current direction of the
charter school sector toward a few narrow approaches cuts short this potential.
(2) The
charter school's commitment to consistently use a high
quality curriculum and instructional
model from the country's largest provider of individualized online education programs primarily for students in kindergarten through high
school in the U.S. with a ten year track record of proven success.

We are concerned that H.R. 2218 seems designed to yield a rapid and essentially unregulated increase in the quantity, but not the
quality, of
charter schools by prioritizing funding for those states that agree to repeal their
charter caps, and by supporting full - blended or hybrid - online
charter school models.

model of high
quality, accredited public
charter schools that are student - centered and performance - driven.
Furthermore, we believe readers are more interested in examining the
quality of the Los Angeles public education system along with the creative ideas and educational
models, such as
charter schools, that are delivering much - needed results and have the power to transform the system.
On the other hand, the pendulum in the
charter space swung from quantity to
quality, and restrictive authorizing and accountability based on narrow historic measures (and proficiency over growth) lead to more closures, fewer new
schools and less innovative
models.
