Often this comes in the form of a high -
quality mentor text (Patricia Polacco's «Pink and Say,» Eve Bunting's «Fly Away Home») or a shared experience such as watching a piece of a documentary (Paperclips).
One of my
mentors, the late Reid Buckley (younger brother to William F. Buckley), in his
text titled Strictly Speaking: Reid Buckley's Indefensible Handbook on Public Speaking, described this
quality of authenticity very succinctly.
