The color
of the bubble reflects a metric composed
of factors that taken together are warning signs that a district's
alternative schools are
of poor
quality or that a district may be using
alternative schools to improve accountability measures.
Accordingly, some indicators that are appropriate measures
of performance for comprehensive high
schools can not accurately measure the
quality of educational programs at
alternative schools.
Just as Trump's flunkies exert political pressure to halt access to healthcare (or immigration or policies to address climate change), so NJEA exerts political pressure — as well as its deep pockets — to stave off the continued enrollment
of children, mostly poor and
of color, in high -
quality alternative public
schools.
The profound lack
of knowledge about public education, as reflected in comments about public
schools being «flush with cash» and badly underserving the nation's children, coupled with policy proposals based on these «
alternative facts», pose a threat to a high -
quality education for more than 50 million students.
For most
of the past decade, NCATE, the American Association for Colleges
of Teacher Education and the ed
schools they represent have spent more time criticizing
school reformers, decrying the presence
of alternative outfits such as Teach For America, and defending their shoddy offerings, than on improving the
quality of their teacher training.
Public charter
schools across the country were started with the promise
of being
alternative,
quality options for parents to choose for their children.
Over the years, one
of the mysteries
of my
school choice advocacy has been the reluctance among many, including a large number
of supposedly market sensitive business leaders, to understand and accept the dynamics
of competition and how, in a choice environment, these dynamics will produce a supply
of quality education
alternatives to meet the demand while driving improvement in the public
schools.
The debate over the
quality of alternative provision has grown in prominence in recent years, as the rate
of permanent exclusions from
schools has increased.
As a secondary educator with experience in a public
school, I believe that
alternative forms
of education can be beneficial; however, not at the expense
of quality educators.
Meanwhile Ofsted should check
schools are commissioning
alternative provision in line with a «nationally - agreed
quality assurance framework» that proves it is
of a high standard.
The
quality of alternative provision for excluded pupils varies wildly across the country, and even between adjacent authorities, exclusive data obtained by
Schools Week reveals.
But 2,000 respondents to an Ipsos MORI survey have faith in the capacity
of comprehensive
schools to enable social mobility, with 47 per cent backing high -
quality schools over other educational
alternatives, such as lowering tuition fees, to help poor pupils.
That means your student will get a higher
quality education through a local public charter
school than they would at any
of the
alternatives.

schools in Pennsylvania through 2012 have been popular among families seeking

Schools have made efforts to reduce or eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, improve water
quality and conservation, decrease hazardous waste production, and expand use
of alternative transportation.
Schools experience a greater increase in breakfast participation when they serve higher
quality breakfast items and incorporate
alternative breakfast delivery methods, rather than the traditional model
of breakfast served in the cafeteria.
Specifically, a case study on Boston highlights how restrictive charter
school caps can impede the growth
of a high -
quality charter sector; a case study on Denver illustrates the potential and challenges
of district - charter collaboration; a case study on New Orleans describes how a city can embrace chartering and
alternative governing structures to bring about improved opportunities for students; and a case study on Washington, D.C. illustrates how a well - developed city ecosystem can support a large charter market share.
The infusion will allow the state to double the number
of these
alternative schools serving primarily urban students and improve the
quality of all charter
schools, priorities
of Education Commissioner Deborah A. Gist.
The type
of residency program — whether run through a teacher preparation program, an
alternative certification provider, or a
school district — matters less than the
quality of the program.
