This seaweed is so nasty, in fact, that most marine herbivores avoid it on sight — except for one species
of rabbitfish that quivers with excitement every time it spots this not - so - common algae.
In recent decades,
rabbitfish numbers have increased, resulting in hundreds of kilometres of deforested areas and a 40 per cent decrease in the variety of marine species.

rabbitfish escort you during this dive and queen angelfish love this reef.
As well as a colourful hard coral reef top you get to see plenty of big fish like giant sweetlips, six bar angelfish, coral trout and
even rabbitfish.
At least 10 species of foraminifera hitch rides inside the guts
of rabbitfish, which defecate out the still - living protists in the Mediterranean.
The rabbitfish devour algal forests and the tiny interlopers carpet the seafloor, driving out some native species.
Scientists spotted this Chimaera, or

Tropical fish expanding their ranges into temperate areas include unicornfish, parrotfish, and

New research, lead by Tamar Guy - Haim of the Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research (IOLR) / the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel released in Limnology and Oceanography Letters this week, reveals that
the rabbitfish brought the other marine life with them.

rabbitfishes and Big - Eye Jacks and so on... A great dive!
Schooling fish was a highlight of this dive: fusiliers, Redtooth Triggerfish,
rabbitfish, surgeonfish and chubs were some of them.
