This season it's raining cats and dogs - as in publications featuring felines and canines - at bookstores everywhere.Although cats have long been a favorite subject for photographers and artists, dogs have become more of a presence this year.

The rainy season lasts from November to March, so although it's still wet at this time of year, the rain gets less and less common as the month goes on.

If you come any later, mid-June to September is generally a season that liveaboards tend to avoid as there are chances of getting a few strong winds and rain.

The green season is a great option for travellers, as there are more economical prices, less people, exceptional sunsets, green and lush gardens, and you are unlikely to be completely «rained in».

Best time to visit Sabah is between March and October during the dry season though it does rain occasionally during dry season as it is a tropical country.

But as this was apparently an anomaly int the usual DRY season, I am sure, that a rain poncho won't be necessary next time.

This season spans technically from November - April although the best time to go is January - March, as the rain has stopped (for the most part) and the swells are very consistently 3 - 6ft.

In return it invites you to experience the island life style and eco awareness: the pleasure of mandi (showers are only available in rain season), home made food, tranquil and spiritual atmosphere, starry nights with candles and oil - lamps, and a lovely breeze as fan!

During the rainy season, the Kennedy Vlei is littered with flamboyant colours from the seasonal wild flowers that emerge as the first rains begin and, as the grass dries out, large herds of buffalo, zebra and elephant are in abundance.

March through to June is the hot season and July to October is the rainy season although this is a little unfair as it is perfectly possible to have many days without seeing a drop of rain.

I wouldn't have guessed it myself, but we happened to be in Fiji during the «turn of the season» as the locals refer to it, which brings with it 8 straight days of cool wind and rain.
